HISTORY OF KHARAGPUR RAILWAY POLICE

 

ABOUT KHARAGPUR GRP DISTRICT

Kharagpur GRP District was brought into existence after bifurcation of Howrah GRP District vide Notification No. 855PL/PP/4P-10/99 dated 14.02.2001. The District started functioning independently from 28.01.2002. Kharagpur GRP District extends from Dasnagar, Shalimar RSs (Howrah) in the East to Gidhni (Jhargram), Biramdih, Tulin and Suisa RSs (Puruliua) in the West and Pundag, Santaldih, Madhukunda RSs (Puruliua) in the North to Haldia, Digha (Purba Medinipur) and Laxmannath (Paschim Medinipur) in the South. Its jurisdiction runs through 03 (three) Railways Divisions namely Kharagpur Division, Adra Division & Ranchi Division under South Eastern Railways covering 904 Kms of Railway Tracks on Broad Gauge Railway line. This GRP District has 105 Railway Stations and 57 Halt Stations, 404 (four hundred and four) manned level crossings, 21 (twenty one) unmanned level crossings, 68 (sixty eight) bridges and 921(Nine hundrednand twenty one) culverts.

 

The following new broad gauge line comes under this jurisdiction after bifurcation:-

  • Bankura to Rainagar
  • Tamluk to Digha
  • One new broad gauge line from Santragachi to Amta is yet to be included. Additional Police personnel for policing the new broad gauge line is to be sanctioned..
